Cheryl came to The Mortgage House in 2004 with many years of small office management and loan processing experience, creating a very diversified background, which really helps in her current position.  Born and raised in Pasadena, California, Cheryl moved with her husband and son to the Central Coast in 1990. During her search for a job, she sent letters of introduction to several local mortgage companies. One of these was to the office of ARCS Mortgage in San Luis Obispo. And who was the one who responded to her letter? Wow - Roxanne Carr, then Western Regional VP for ARCS! The interview happened, but for some reason long forgotten, a job never materialized. Cheryl went on to pursue other positions, but stayed in the San Luis Obispo area. Having been in the mortgage industry ("which never gets out of your blood," she says), Cheryl followed Roxanne’s career in the local news, and saw how she helped opened her new mortgage company in 1995.

In 2002, Cheryl moved to the Portland, Oregon area to be close to her sister. After two years in Oregon, a family need in 2004 necessitated her return to the Central Coast. Remembering her initial interview with Roxanne, and how Roxanne and The Mortgage House were so influential and well-regarded, she took a chance and sent another letter, asking if there might be a remote chance a position could be available and, “Oh – by the way – you interviewed me back in 1990,” she said.  Whether that stimulated Roxanne’s interest or whether it was Cheryl’s experience, Cheryl and Roxanne met again, an offer was made, and Cheryl joined TMH as Rox’s assistant/processor, as well as handling the division’s marketing and advertising needs, and anything else where the team might need help around the office.

Although the plans were for a long-term position, life has a way of changing its course. After only 13 short (but very valued) months, Cheryl returned to Portland in October 2005, joking with Roxanne that if they ever considered opening a branch there, she would be first in line. She did, however, continue working on a part-time basis with TMH by preparing assorted advertisements and flyers, as well as updating the company website.

Well…whadda know!? In 2006, we decided to open a small office in the Beaverton/Portland area of Oregon, where Cheryl was at the helm.  But with the major effect on the mortgage industry in the last year, it was decided to close the Oregon office in May, 2009.  But Cheryl is still with The Mortgage House, as she moved back to the San Luis Obispo office in July 2009 to be Char Storlie's assistant!

In her off-time, Cheryl is the domestic type. She cooks, sews, knits, crochets, does crafts, and enjoys the internet and watching television. She loves rock music, and probably unknown to most, is a novice rock drummer. She also loves dogs and cats, as well as just about any other kind of animal. Her son (and the light of her life!) is 31 years old and also lives in the San Luis Obispo area.
