Mary Swift was born in Glendale, California and raised in Panorama City, a true native Californian. In 1981 while working at Bank of America, she first got into the real estate business. At first she was afraid of hurting people financially; “after all you have someone’s life in your hands when they are asking for a home loan,” she says. Then she continued, “Little did I know that this would be my niche and in a very short time it would become my never-ending passion.”
Yes, she is very passionate about what she does, whether it’s work, gardening, needlepoint or crafts and life in general. There is a certain amount of gratification and joy that comes within the mortgage banking industry, besides a lot of hard work, and Mary embraces it all. Helping a single person, a family or a Senior purchase their first home is very rewarding to everyone on the team.
Mary adds, “I love a good challenge, never tell me I can’t do something… I’ll find a way. Some people call me the miracle worker; it’s just hard work.” Her basic training came from working at the real estate auctions for Bank of America in conjunction with Kennedy Wilson in l981. She has had the privilege of helping people from every walk of live obtain their dream. I have been honored to have an article written about me by Kathy Price-Robinson, a Los Angeles Times’ reporter in 2001 involving one of my customers and how she put Valerie Lunden in a condo with an FHA 2/1 Buydown Mortgage using the State of California’s CalHFA first time homebuyer program, providing funds for down payment and closing costs.
Mary’s experience of over 26 years with two very large companies has brought her to The Mortgage House, Inc. As companies get larger and larger, they centralize their processing in faraway locations. They forget about the customer and what it takes to make a loan really happen. At The Mortgage House, Mary says that she is glad to be back to the basics where the customer service is a must, and where you give the borrower what is best for them financially and not what the company wants you to sell that month.
All the processors, underwriters, document drawers and funders are in the local office, giving more control over all transaction, therefore can meet the closing deadlines. If there are any questions on a file, loan officers are able to go directly to the underwriters for professional, immediate assistance.
Mary has been recognized in her previous jobs as Loan Officer of the year, Top Producer for 15 years, Affiliate of the year in 1997, Presidents’ Club and has received many other special recognitions.
